Chapter 12

And when great crowds were gathered by droves, so that they stepped on one another, Jesus began to say to his disciples, First of all, be on your guard of that leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy
. For there is nothing hidden, which will not be revealed, nor concealed, that will not be known
For whatever you speak in the dark, will be heard in the light, and what in secret quarters, you whisper in the ear, will be announced on the housetops
. And to you, my friends, I say, Be not afraid of those that kill the body, and after that can do no more
But I will tell you, of whom to be afraid, of him who after he has killed, has power to cast into hell. Yes, say I to you, be afraid of him
. Are not five sparrows sold for two assarii? And yet not one of them is forgotten in God's view
And as for you, every hair on your head has been counted There is no need to be afraid, for you are worth more than sparrows
And I say to you, that every one that declares himself for me before men, the Son of Man will also declare himself for him in the presence of the angels of God
. But he that should deny me before men, shall himself be denied in the presence the angels of God
And every one that should speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him, but he that should blaspheme the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven him
And when they shall bring you into the synagogues, before magistrates and authorities, do not worry how you about how to defend yourselves, or what you should say
. for the Holy Spirit will, when the time comes, instruct you what to say
. And one of the crowd said to him, Teacher, tell my brother, to give me a share of our inheritance
? But Jesus said to him, Friend, who appointed me a judge and arbitrator over you
. And he said to his disciples, Be on guard of every avarice, for life consists not in accumulation of wealth
And he spoke to them a parable; The land of a certain wealthy man yielded crops in abundance
? And he considered with himself, and said, What should I do, for I have nowhere I can store up my crops
And he said, I will do this, I will tear down my barns, and build them bigger, and there will I store up all my corn and my good things
and I will say to my soul, My soul, you have plenty of good things, which are stored up for many years, comfort yourself, eat, drink, and have a good time
? But God said to him, You lack of reason! This night, your soul will be demanded from you, and who will inherit these things provided by you
. Such is he that stores up valuables for himself, and in God is poor
And he said to his disciples, Therefore I tell you, Do not worry about your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you should put on
. For Life means more than food, and the body more than clothing
Think of the ravens, which sow not, nor reap, nor have cellars and barns, yet God feeds them How much more important now are you, than the birds
? And which of you, by taking pains, can add one cubit to his span of life
? And if the smallest things are outside your control, why worry about the rest
Consider the lilies, how they grow, they toil not, nor do they spin Yet I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his resplendence, was clothed like one of these
? And if God so clothes the herb, which today exists in the field, and tomorrow falls into the oven, how much more are you, you of little in faith
. And do not question, what you should eat, or what you should drink, nor let your mind get lost on these things
For all these things the people of the world strive for, your father knows that, you, too, need them
. But seek the Realm of God, and all these things will be given to you
. Don't worry, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the Realm
Sell your possessions, and give alms, make for yourselves purses that do not age, and wealth that is not fleeting, in the heavens, where no thief comes, and no moth eats
. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be, also
. Let you be dressed for action, and your lamps burning
And be like the servants who are waiting for their master to return from the banquet, that when he returns and knock, they may open the door to him that moment
Happy are those servants, who their master finds ready when he returns. I say to you truly, He will apron up, and make them sit, and will go around and wait on them
. And if in the second watch, or in the third, he returns and so finds them ready, happy are those servants
And know this, that if the master of the house had known at what shift the thief would come, he would have been awake and would not have worried at his house being broken into
. Therefore be also ready, for at any moment that you do not expect, the Son of Man comes
? Simon Kephas said to him, Our Lord, do you speak this parable to us, or to all men, too
Jesus said to him, Who then is that faithful and wise servant, whom his master entrusts with all his household, to give them their share in due time
. Happy is that servant whom his master, when he comes, should find ready
. Truly I say to you, He will place him over all his possessions
But if that servant should say in his heart, My master delays his return, and he begins to strike the menservants and the maids of his master, and begins to eat and drink and get drunk
the master of that servant will return a day he doesn't know, and at an hour he doesn't know, and will divide up his portion, and assign it to those that are faithful
And the servant who knew what his master wanted, and did not get ready for him according to his wishes, should be stroked with many lashes
But he that did not know, yet did that which deserved lashing, should be stroked with few lashes. When a man has had a great deal given him, a great deal will be demanded of him, and when a man has had a great deal given him on trust, even more will be expected of him
. I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish that it had already burned
And I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great my distress until it is over
. Do you suppose, that I have come to create tranquility on the earth ? I tell you, No, but rather division
. For from now on, there will be five people in one house who will be divided, three against two, and two against three
For a father will be divided against his son, and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter, and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law
. And he said to the crowd: When you see a cloud looming out of the west, you at once say, Rain is coming, and it is so
. And when a south wind blows, you say, It will be hot, and so it is
? You hypocrites, you know how to interpret the appearance of the skies and the earth, then why can't you interpret the present
? And why don't you evaluate yourselves correctly
And when you go with your opponent to court, try to settle with him on the way, or he may bring you to the judge and the judge hand you over to the bailiff, and the bailiff send you to prison
. For truly I say to you, You will not get out of there until you pay the last penny

Chapter 13

. And at that time, some came and told him of those Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices
? And Jesus replied, and said to them, Do you suppose, that these Galileans were sinners worse than all the Galileans, because this was done to them
. No. And I say to you, That all of you also, unless you repent, will likewise perish
? Or those eighteen, on whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, do you suppose that they were sinners worse than all men living in Jerusalem
. No. And I say to you, That unless you repent, all of you will perish like them
And he spoke this parable, A man had a fig tree that was planted in his vineyard, and he came to find fruit on it, and found none
? And he said to the tenant, Alas, these three years, I have come to find fruit on this fig tree, and never do. Cut it down, why should it take up ground
. The tenant said to him, My Master, spare it this year also, until I should work on it, and fertilize it
? And if it yields fruit, good, and if not, you can cut it down, for why should it live
, And when Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, on the Sabbath
a woman was there who had been possessed by a spirit of infirmities for eighteen years, and she was bent over, and could not straighten herself at all
. And Jesus saw her, and called her, and said to her, Woman, you are rid of your infirmity
. And he put his hand upon her, and immediately she straightened her self up, and praised God
And the official of the synagogue, being angry that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, replied to the crowd, There are six days, on which it is permitted to work, come on one of them to be healed, but not on the Sabbath day
? But Jesus answered, You hypocrite ! Do not every one of you, on the Sabbath, untie his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead him to water
? And this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom the Deceiver has restrained these eighteen years, ought she not to be unbound from this restraint on the Sabbath day
And when he had said these things, all those that stood opposed to him were ashamed, and all the people rejoiced in all the miracles that were worked by his hand
? And Jesus said, To what is the Realm of God like? and with what shall I compare it
It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and threw into his garden, and it grew, and became a large tree, and a bird of the sky made her nest in its branches
? Jesus said again, To what shall I compare the Realm of God
. It is like yeast, which a woman took to knead into three measures of flour, until it all began to rise
. And he traveled through the villages and towns, teaching and going towards Jerusalem
? And a person asked him whether just a few who would have life
. And Jesus said to them, Strive to enter in the narrow gate, for I say to you, many will try to enter, and will not be able
From the moment that the master of the house shall get up and close the door, you will stand outside then, and knock at the door, and you will start to say, Our Master, our Master, open for us and he will answer, and say, I tell you, I do not know where you are from
And you will begin to say, We have eaten and drank in front of you, and you have taught in our streets
. And he will say to you, I don't know you where you are from, leave me, you liars
There will be sobbing and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the Realm of God, and when yourselves are to be driven out
. And they will come from the east and from the west, and from the south and from the north, and will sit to feast in the Realm of God
. And behold, there are those last that will be first, and there are those first that will be last
. On the same day came some of the Pharisees, and said to him, Go, leave here, for Herod intends to kill you
Jesus said to them, Go and tell that jackal, behold, I will expel unholy spirits and perform cures today, and tomorrow, and on the third day I will be finished
But I must labor today, and tomorrow, and on another day I will go, because it cannot be, that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem
Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that slays the prophets, and stones those that are sent to you, how often would I have gathered your children, as a hen that gathers her young under her wings, and you would not
. Behold, your temple will be abandoned For I say to you, You will not see me until you will say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord

Chapter 14

. And when he entered the house of one of the high Pharisees to eat bread, on the Sabbath day, they watched him
. And there in front of him was a man with dropsy
? And Jesus answered, and said to the scribes and Pharisees, Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath
. And they were silent. And he took him, and healed him, and sent him away
? And he said to them, Which of you, if his son or his ox falls into a well on the Sabbath day, does not immediately lift and pull him out
. And they could give him no answer to that
. And he spoke a parable to the guests that were present, as he noticed how they chose places on the highest seats
When you are invited by any one to a banquet, go not and sit on the highest seat, lest there should be invited there, one more honorable than you
and he that invited both him and you come and say to you, Give a place to this man, and you be ashamed, when you get up, and take a lower seat
But when you are invited, go and sit on the lowest seat, so when he who invited you comes, he may say to you, My friend, come up higher and sit And you will be honored before all that sit with you
. For, every one that exalts himself, will be humbled, and every one that humbles himself, will be exalted
And he said to him that invited him, When you make a lunch or a dinner, invite not your friends, nor your brothers, nor your relatives, nor your wealthy neighbors, lest they also invite you, and you have this to reciprocate
. But when you make a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind
. And you will be blessed For they cannot reciprocate, but your reciprocation will be at the resurrection of the just
. And when one of those sitting heard these things, he said to him, Blessed is he that should eat bread in the Realm of God
Jesus said to him: A certain man made a great banquet, and invited many
. And at the time for the banquet, he sent his servant to say to those invited, there, every thing is ready for you, come
And they all to a man, began to excuse themselves The first said to him, I have bought a field, and am obligated to go out and see it I beg you, let me be excused
. Another said, I have bought five teams of oxen, and I am to go inspect them I beg you, let me be excused
. Another said, I have married a wife, and because of this I cannot come
And the servant came, and told his master these things Then the master of the house was angry, and he said to his servant, Go out quickly into the market-places and streets of the city, and bring in here the poor, and the diseased, and the lame, and the blind
. And the servant said, My master, what you wanted done is done, and still there is room
And the master said to his servant, Go out to the open roads, and among the hedgerows, and force them to come in, that my house may be filled
. For I declare to you, that not one of those men that were invited should taste of my banquet
, And when great crowds were traveling with him, he turned himself, and said to them
if any man comes to me without turning his back on his father and his mother, and his brothers and his sisters, and his wife and his children, and his own life also, cannot become a disciple to me
. And he that does not take up his cross and follow me, cannot become a disciple to me
? For, which of you, wishing to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the expense, whether he has the means to complete it
, For when he has laid the foundation, and is unable to finish, all that see it begin to ridicule him
. and say, This man began to build what he could not finish
Or what king, that is going to march in battle with his neighbor king, does not first consider, whether he is able, with ten thousand, to withstand him that is opposing him with twenty thousand
. and if not, while he is yet far from him, he sends envoys, and negotiates for peace
. So every one of you who does not give up all his possessions, cannot be my disciple
? Salt is a good thing, but if the salt itself has become tasteless, where of with shall it be salted
. It is fit for neither the earth, nor the dunghill They cast it away He that has ears to hear, let him hear

Chapter 15

. And tax collectors and sinners came to him, to hear him
. And the scribes and Pharisees murmured, and said, This man receives sinners, and eats with them
, And Jesus spoke to them this parable
? What man among you, that has a hundred sheep, and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go to find what is lost, until he finds it
, And when he finds it, he rejoices, and takes it upon his shoulders
and he returns home, and he calls together his friends and neighbors, and says to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost
I say to you, that there will be similar joy in heaven, over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety nine just ones, to whom repentance was not necessary
Or what woman is there, who, if she have ten drachmas, and lose one of them, does not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and search for it carefully, until she finds it
And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, and says to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my drachma that was lost
. I say to you, That there will be similar joy, before the angels of God, over one sinner that repents
. And Jesus said to them again: A certain man had two sons
And his younger son said to him, My father, give me the share that is to befall me from your house. And he divided up his property for them
And after a few days, the younger son collected together all that befell to him, and went to a distant place and there squandered his holdings on a life of debauchery
. And when he had spent all that he had, there was a great famine in that region, and he began to be in need
And he went and attached himself with one of the landowners of that place, and he sent him into the field to tend pigs
. And he longed to fill his belly with those husks which the pigs ate, and which no one even gave to him
And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants are now at my father's house, who have bread enough, and I am here wasting away with hunger
, I will get up and go to my father, and say to him, My father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you
. and am no longer worthy to be called your son Take me as one of your hired servants
And he got up and went towards his father And he still a long way off, when his father saw him and was moved with pity, and ran, and embraced him and kissed him
. And his son said to him, My father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you, and am not worthy to be called your son
But his father said to his servants: Bring here the best robe, and clothe him, and put a ring on his hand, and provide him with shoes
. And bring here and slaughter the fatted bull, and let us eat, and be happy
. For this son of mine was dead, and is now alive, he was lost but now found. And they started to be happy
But his elder son was in the field, and as he came and came near the house, he heard the sound of many singing
. And he called to one of the boys, and asked him what it was all about
. And he said to him, Your brother has return, and your father has killed the fatted bull, because he has returned safe and healthy
. And he was angry, and would not go in, and his father went out and pleaded with him
And he said to his father, All these many years have I labored in your service, and never disobeyed your orders, and you never gave me a kid goat, that I might celebrate with my friends
But for this son of yours, when he had wasting away your holdings with whores, and returns, and you have slaughtered the fat bull for him
. His father said to him, My son, you are with me always, and all that I have is yours
. But it was only right for us to be happy, and to rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life, he was lost, and now is found

Chapter 16

And he spoke a parable to his disciples: There was a certain rich man, who had a steward, and accusations were brought to him of him, that he squandered his property
And his lord called him, and said to him, What is this that I hear of you? Give to me an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be my steward
And the steward said to himself, What shall I do, since my master is about to take away from me the stewardship? I am unable to dig, and I am ashamed to become a beggar
. I know what to do, that when I am put out of the office, there may be some who will receive me to their houses
? And he called each one of his lord's debtors, and he said to the first, How much do you owe to my master
. And he said to him, One hundred measures of oil And he said to him, Take your bill, and sit down quickly, and write Fifty measures
And he said to another, And how much do you owe to my master? And he said to him, One hundred measures of wheat And he said to him, Take your bill, and sit down, and write Eighty measures
And our Master praised the dishonest steward, for having acted astutely, for the children of this world are more astute than the children of light with their own generation
And I also say to you, Make to yourselves friends, with this tainted money, so that when it fails you, they may welcome you to their tents in eternity
He that can be trusted with the little things, is also to be trusted with the great, and he that is dishonest with the little things, is also dishonest with the great
? If therefore you cannot be trusted with money, who will entrust to you the genuine wealth
? And if you have not been honest with that which is not yours, who will give to you that which is yours
There is no servant, who can serve two masters For, either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will honor the one and despise the other. You cannot be the servant to both God and money
. And the Pharisees, when they heard all these things, because they loved money, ridiculed him
And Jesus said to them, You are such as to justify yourselves before men, but God knows your heart, for that which is exalted among men, is abominable before God
The law and the prophets were in force until John, from now on, the Realm of God is proclaimed, and every sort are forcing to get in it
. And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one letter to pass from the law
Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery, and whoever marries her that is divorced, commits adultery
. And there was a certain wealthy man, who was clothed in fine linen and scarlet, and spent every day in splendid luxury
And there was a certain beggar, whose name was Lazarus, and he was laid by the gate of the wealthy man, suffering with sores
And he desired to fill his belly with the scraps that fell from the wealthy man's table, and the dogs also came and licked his sores
And so it was, that the poor man died, and angels carried him away to Abraham's bosom The wealthy man also died, and was buried
And being tormented in hell, he raised his eyes from far away, and saw Abraham, and Lazarus in his bosom
And he called with a loud voice, and said, Abraham, my father, have pity on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and wet my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame
And Abraham said to him, My son, remember, that you received your good things in your lifetime, and Lazarus his evil things, and now, behold he is here at rest, and you are tormented
And with all these, there is a great abyss between us and you, so that they who would pass from here to you, cannot, neither can they pass from there to us
, He said to him, I pray you, therefore, my father, that you would send him to my father's house
. for I have five brothers, that he may go and protest to them, lest they also come to this place of torment
. Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them
. But he said to him, No, my father Abraham, but if one should go to them from the dead, they will repent
. Abraham said to him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, they will not believe even though one should rise from the dead

Chapter 17

. And Jesus said to his disciples: Obstacles are sure to come, but woe for the one who produces them
Better for him were it, if a millstone were suspended to his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should cause one of these children to stumble
. Take heed to yourselves If your brother transgresses, reprimand him, and if he repents, forgive him
And if he shall offend against you seven times a day, and, seven times a day, shall turn himself to you, and say, I repent, forgive him
. And the Apostles said to our Lord, Increase our faith
He said to them, Were your faith the size of a mustard seed, you might say to this mulberry tree, Be you torn up by the roots, and be you planted in the sea, and it would obey you
? Which of you, having a servant driving a team of oxen, or tending sheep, will say to him when he comes from the field, Come in at once, and sit for supper
But he will say to him, Prepare for me what I may dine upon, and don your serving cloth and serve me, until I have eaten and drank, and afterwards you shall eat and drink
. Has he thanks for him, because the servant did what was ordered him? I think not
So also, when you have done all the things ordered you say, We are useless servants, for we have done only what we was our duty to do
. And it happened as Jesus headed towards Jerusalem, that he passed among the Samaritans into Galilee
, And when he drew near to enter a certain village, there met him ten leper men, and they stood at a distance
. and raised their voices, and said, Our Master, Jesus, have compassion upon us
. And when he had looked upon them, he said to them, Go show yourselves to the priests. And as they were going they were cleansed
. And one of them, when he saw that he was cleansed, returned, and with a loud voice, praised God
. And he fell to his face, at the feet of Jesus, and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan
? And Jesus answered, and said, Were there not ten who were cleansed? Where are the nine
? Have they so gone as not to return and give glory to God, all but this one, who is of another people
. And he said to him, Get up, and go, your faith has given you Life
And as some of the Pharisees asked him when the Realm of God would come, he answered, and said to them, The Realm of God will not come with things seen
. And they will not say, Behold, here it is! or, Behold, it is there! For, the Realm of God is within you
And he said to his disciples, The days will come, when your will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see them
. And if they shall say to you, Behold, here he is! or, Behold, there he is! Go not after it
For, as the lightning darts from the heavens, and illuminates all beneath the skies, so will the Son of Man be, in his day
. But, prior, he is to suffer many things, and to be rejected by this generation
. And as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man
They ate and drank, they took wives and were given husbands, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed everyone
. And again, as it was in the days of Lot, they ate and drank, bought and sold, planted and built
. But in the day that Lot went out of Sodom, the Lord rained fire and sulfur from the sky, and destroyed them all
. Thus will it be, on the day when the Son of Man shall be revealed
On that day, let him that is on the housetop, and his possessions in the house, not come down to take them, and let him that is in the field, not return after what is left behind
. Remember Lot's wife
. He that wants to save his life, will lose it, and he that will lose his life, shall save it
. I tell you that, on that night, two will be in one bed, one will be taken, and the other left
. And two women will be grinding together, one will be taken, and the other left
. And two men will be in the field, one will be taken, and the other left
. They answered, and said to him, From where, our Lord? He said to them, Where the carcass is, there will the vultures gather themselves

Chapter 18

. And he spoke to them a parable also, that men should pray at all times, and not lose heart
There was a judge in a certain town, who was not afraid of God, and had no respect for men
And there was a certain widow in that town, and she came to him, and said, Give me justice from my opponent
, And he would not, for a long time, but later, he said to himself, Though I am not afraid of God, and have no respect for men
. yet, because this widow annoys me, I will give her justice, that she may not be always returning and annoying me
. And our Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge said
? And will not God, much more, give justice to his chosen, who call upon him by day and by night, and have patience with them
? I tell you, He will give them speedy justice Yet the Son of Man will come, and will he find faith on the earth
. And he spoke this parable, towards certain people, who believed themselves righteous, and despised everyone else
. Two men went up to the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector
And the Pharisee stood by himself, and prayed thus, God, I thank you that I have not been like the rest of men, grasping, crooked, and adulterous, nor like this tax collector
. But I fast twice a week, and tithe all I own
And the tax collector stood far off, and would not even raise his eyes to heaven, but struck on his breast, and said, God, be merciful to me, a sinner
I say to you, that this man returned to his house justified, rather than the Pharisee For every one that exalts himself will be humbled, and every one that humbles himself will be exalted
. And they brought to him infants, that he might touch them, and his disciples saw them, and reprimanded them
But Jesus called them, and said to them, Let little children to come to me, and forbid them not, for of those that are like them, of such is the Realm of Heaven
. Truly I say to you, That he who shall not accept the Realm of God, like a little child, will not enter it
? And one of the officials asked him, and said to him, Good Teacher, what shall I do, that I may inherit eternal life
. Jesus said to him, Why do you call me good? For, there is none good, but one, God
You know the commandments, You should not kill, and you should not commit adultery, and you should not steal, and you should not testify a false testimony, respect your father and your mother
